Defiant Saif al-Islam rallies loyalists Gaddafi’s influential son appears with supporters in Tripoli, disproving opposition claims that he had been captured.

Saif al-Islam, the son of Muammar Gaddafi who was reported captured by Libyan opposition forces on Sunday, has made a defiant public appearance in Tripoli.

Television footage showed Saif, considered the most influential and politically active of Gaddafi’s children, pumping his fists in the air, smiling, waving and shaking hands with supporters. At one point, he was pictured holding his arms aloft with each hand making the “V” for victory sign. “I am here to refute the lies,” Saif, 39, said on Monday in reference to reports of his arrest.

He later visited the Rixos Hotel, where many members of the foreign media have been based since the conflict started, to speak to foreign journalists. “We broke the back of the rebels. It was a trap. We gave them a hard time, so we are winning,” he said. Gaddafi’s sons: Where are they? Mohammad: Surrendered to rebel fighters in Tripoli but has reportedly escaped.

Gaddafi’s son told journalists that Tripoli, which has been a battleground for the past 24 hours, remained in government hands. Asked whether his father was safe, Saif said: “Of course.” He said he did not care about an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court in The Hague seeking him and his father for alleged crimes against humanity.

Earlier, armed pro-Gaddafi security men guarding the hotel took a small group of journalists to Gaddafi’s Bab al-Azizyah compound, where they had a meeting with Saif. They returned to the hotel accompanied by Saif, who then spoke to journalists in the lobby before taking others of them back to the compound a short distance away for a brief visit.

Luis Moreno-Ocampo, the ICC prosecutor, had earlier said the 39-year-old had been arrested and was in detention. But the ICC said on Tuesday that it had never received official confirmation of Saif’s capture from the opposition National Transitional Council (NTC). “Different answers were given.

That was a little ambiguous,” said ICC official Fadi el-Abdallah. Waheed Burshan, an NTC member told Al Jazeera: “We had confirmation Saif al-Islam was arrested, but we have no idea how he escaped.” Meanwhile, rebel forces said they had arrested Saadi Gaddafi, the beleaguered Libyan leader’s third son.

The claim was made even as the location of other relatives and senior officials remained unknown. Eldest son ‘escapes’ Gaddafi’s eldest son, Mohammad, who was also detained by rebels on Sunday night is reported to have escaped. The interview was interrupted by gunfire. “What’s happening in Libya is very upsetting. The killing between brothers, between Muslims, is something that saddens me,” he said. Mohammad was the chairman of Libya’s main state-run telecommunications firm, but his role in his father’s government was reportedly minimal, far smaller than Saif al-Islam’s.

Muammar Gaddafi has not appeared in public for several months, although he issued a brief audio recording on Sunday night to call on Libya’s tribes to march on the capital. “How can you allow Tripoli to be burned?” he asked. Three other Gaddafi sons – Hannibal, Mutasim and Khamis – have not been located. Hannibal had little role in politics, but Khamis headed a feared army unit that took a leading role in suppressing protests.

Mutasim was an army officer and a security adviser to his father. The Al-Arabiya news network reported on Monday that Khamis was travelling to central Tripoli with soldiers loyal to him, although there has been no confirmation of his whereabouts. Abdullah al-Senussi, Gaddafi’s longtime intelligence chief and brother-in-law, also seems to have eluded the rebels. He was last seen at the Rixos Hotel on Sunday, when he told foreign journalists that “Western intelligence” was “working alongside al-Qaeda to destroy Libya”.

Now without a doubt the video is disturbing, wrong, and should be condemned. The majority of Muslims who view this would be saddened by it, and would certainly not condone it. After all if Muslims supported such acts then you would find Muslims killing police officers in large numbers throughout the Muslim world, yet such is not the case.

Having said all of that, one can show very disturbing videos, and pictures of crimes and murders being committed by Christians and Zionists! Just go search in Iraqi babies and uranium, and just wait for the pictures that come up, and I’m sure most of you have already seen the disgusting imagery and consequences of the wars that have been launched against Iraq, Palestine, and Lebanon! Incidentally many of David’s supporters happen to support the state of Israel, saying its God land, and God’s chosen people, so they have a right to do what they do!

So these are the last people to be pointing fingers at others. I would like to address a comment and question made by one of his readers, a comment and question which I’m sure many others will be asking:

What’s interesting about this Q is that the person wants an answer, and then goes on to assume the answer by saying he wants to know what false accusations Muslims will make! Talk about an insincere way of asking a Q, but for the sake of truth I shall tackle the question.

My answer to this incident is that this was WRONG, and the reason it was wrong is not because I think it was wrong, but because Islam SPEAKS AGAINST IT, both the Quran and Hadiths are clear about this issue, hence I give you your answer straight from the Quran, and from the prophet Muhammad:

“And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell to abide therein; and the Wrath and the Curse of Allaah are upon him, and a great punishment is prepared for him” (4:93)

And from the Prophet Muhammad: Volume 1, Book 2, Number 9: Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr: The Prophet said, “A Muslim is the one who avoids harming Muslims with his tongue and hands. And a Muhajir (emigrant) is the one who gives up (abandons) all what Allah has forbidden.” Volume 1, Book 2, Number 10:

Narrated Abu Musa: Some people asked Allah’s Apostle, “Whose Islam is the best? i.e. (Who is a very good Muslim)?” He replied, “One who avoids harming the Muslims with his tongue and hands.” Volume 1, Book 2, Number 46: Narrated ‘Abdullah:

The Prophet said, “Abusing a Muslim is Fusuq (an evil doing) and killing him is Kufr (disbelief).” Volume 1, Book 2, Number 30: Narrated Al-Ahnaf bin Qais: While I was going to help this man (‘Ali Ibn Abi Talib), Abu Bakra met me and asked, “Where are you going?” I replied, “I am going to help that person.”

He said, “Go back for I have heard Allah’s Apostle saying, ‘When two Muslims fight (meet) each other with their swords, both the murderer as well as the murdered will go to the Hell-fire.’ I said, ‘O Allah’s Apostle! It is all right for the murderer but what about the murdered one?’ Allah’s Apostle replied, “He surely had the intention to kill his companion.”

So Islam is quite clear, Muslims are forbidden from killing other Muslims, and according to Islam a Muslim who kills another Muslim will go to hell, as has committed an evil crime, and has committed and act of disbelief, hence how clearer can it get?

So there is you answer Mr. Simon, and there is the Islamic response to this video, straight from the Quran and Sunnah. And Allah Knows Best!

ACT has posted a set of statistics that demonstrates the real violence against Muslims – It is not Jews, Christians or even America that is leading the pack in Muslim Genocide, but rather other Muslims. These numbers (almost 10 million killed by other Muslims) defy rationality and surely anyone with half a brain can see where the real problem lies. Islam may or may not be a peaceful religion, but the people who dominate the religion and are the face that the world sees as representation of the religion, surely are far from peaceful. “some 11,000,000 Muslims have been violently killed since 1948, of which 35,000, or 0.3 percent, died during the sixty years of fighting Israel, or just 1 out of every 315 Muslim fatalities. The Arab-Israeli conflict is often said, not just by extremists, to be the world’s most dangerous conflict – and, accordingly, Israel is judged the world’s most belligerent country. For example, British Prime Minister Tony Blair told the U.S. Congress in July 2003 that “Terrorism will not be defeated without peace in the Middle East between Israel and Palestine. Here it is that the poison is incubated. Here it is that the extremist is able to confuse in the mind of a frighteningly large number of people the case for a Palestinian state and the destruction of Israel.” This viewpoint leads many Europeans, among others, to see Israel as the most menacing country on earth. But is this true? It flies in the face of the well-known pattern that liberal democracies do not aggress; plus, it assumes, wrongly, that the Arab-Israeli conflict is among the most costly in terms of lives lost.

To place the Arab-Israeli fatalities in their proper context, one of the two co-authors, Gunnar Heinsohn, has compiled statistics to rank conflicts since 1950 by the number of human deaths incurred. Note how far down the list is the entry in bold type.

This grisly inventory finds the total number of deaths in conflicts since 1950 numbering about 85,000,000. Of that sum, the deaths in the Arab-Israeli conflict since 1950 include 32,000 deaths due to Arab state attacks and 19,000 due to Palestinian attacks, or 51,000 in all. Arabs make up roughly 35,000 of these dead and Jewish Israelis make up 16,000.

These figures mean that deaths Arab-Israeli fighting since 1950 amount to just 0.06 percent of the total number of deaths in all conflicts in that period. More graphically, only 1 out of about 1,700 persons killed in conflicts since 1950 has died due to Arab-Israeli fighting. (Adding the 11,000 killed in the Israeli war of independence, 1947-49, made up of 5,000 Arabs and 6,000 Israeli Jews, does not significantly alter these figures.)

 In a different perspective, some 11,000,000 Muslims have been violently killed since 1948, of which 35,000, or 0.3 percent, died during the sixty years of fighting Israel, or just 1 out of every 315 Muslim fatalities. In contrast, over 90 percent of the 11 million who perished were killed by fellow Muslims.

Comments:

(1) Despite the relative non-lethality of the Arab-Israeli conflict, its renown, notoriety, complexity, and diplomatic centrality will probably give it continued out-sized importance in the global imagination. And Israel’s reputation will continue to pay the price.

(2) Still, it helps to point out the 1-in-1,700 statistic as a corrective, in the hope that one day, this reality will register, permitting the Arab-Israeli conflict to subside to its rightful, lesser place in world politics.

Bukhari, who was a well known and well accepted Qu’ran Scholar said that a time will come where Islam splits into 73 different sects, and only ONE of the 73 sects will have the truth and enter paradise. Bukhari indicated that all the other millions of Muslims in the other 72 sects will be deceived by the Devil and never enter paradise. So here we have Muslims believing that Muslims are deceived!!!

And that is why we see so many Muslims killing other Muslims, for example, sunni Muslims killing shiite Muslims. Muslims believe this prediction and Muslims admit that most Muslims are deceived and follow the Devil. Isn’t that interesting? So why do you Muslims try to tell us Christians and other people that Islam is the truth, when you yourselves admit that most Muslims, meaning millions of Muslims are deceived and do not follow the truth?

Can any Muslim answer me that?

What you have quoted is not something Bukhari said. Bukhari only narrated what Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said. Thus these are the Holy Expressions of the Prophet (p). It is a prediction. The hadith states that somewhere in the future Muslims will be divided into many sects and only one of them will be following the true path. Your question is – this means most Muslims are deceived by Shaitan and do not follow Islam?

The answer, we can’t tell whether the time for which the prediction was made has arrived. Secondly, we are told by Islamic teachings not to brand other Muslims as kafirs if they follow the basic tenets of Islam. It is a sin to call your fellow Muslim a kafir. Thus, we can’t tell who is following the evil path, in any case.

The best we can do is to look at ourselves and follow the teachings of Islam to the letter and make sure WE ARE NOT THE ONES Prophet Muhammad (p) predicted about.

There is also a hadith of the Prophet (p) which says that we should not divide ourselves into sects. Thus while the prediction is definitely true and will be realized (Inshallah), it doesn’t mean branding other Musilms as non-believers and dividing ourselves into sects is justified.

Predictions don’t change the COMMANDMENTS. When we preach to the non-believers we call them towards the TRUTH revealed in the Holy Qur’an and hadith. We do not call on them to follow any sect. Follow the Book of Allah and what Allah has commanded you. Not any sect. There is no contradiction thus.
